When a new school year begins or ends, children have the best intentions in the world. But many times we are only in this, in the good intentions. And we have to say that it is not worth only goodwill . We strive to do everything we propose, but then comes the difficult, keep the schedule, find time, etc., and after a month we have abandoned almost everything.
And it is not lack of competence, we do not know how we have to prepare ourselves from the beginning.
My son does not like to study.
In studies it is the same thing.
We can often listen to teenagers : I can not study !, It does not give me time !, I never liked math! … But they realize that when they reflect there are things that do not go well.
“There are children who are engaged for a whole period, and when they realize they have only done one thing, and when they are called to dinner they realize that they do not know what has happened and all their duties remain to be done.
– It was white on the exam! It took me two days studying and now I do not remember anything !.
“It’s because my son does not like to study, can not sit down and work, spend all afternoon in front of the TV or on the computer . I do not know what to do with it!
We all know or at least remember some study techniques: how should we sit at a table to study (straight, comfortable), with adequate environmental hygiene (light, heat, adequate noise), controlling the times, Schemes, etc. But we do not put it into practice.
Since we were very young, we must educate them in discipline and study. In the primary, they can go more or less well, but soon the secondary arrives and everything goes downhill. And I do not mean that they are reproved, but that they begin to suffer and struggle to try to learn anyway, when that should be learned and educated from an early age, and moreover, at home . And I say from home, because it is not the responsibility of the college. The faculty already know in memory how they should study, and explain in class every year, but students have to put into practice with family support and supervision.
When you get home in the afternoon, there is time to snack, to talk about how it was in high school, with friends, teachers, new jokes … etc. Soon we started to work . For this there is no discussion. We all have responsibilities and must comply with them (if at first it costs, one can resort to a system of prizes for agreements reached). You should begin with the little children already, dedicating a little time every day: read a story, draw a picture, learn how to make jigsaw puzzles, cut out, make the loops of shoes … In the beginning it will mean terms Who do this every day without exception.
In time, we will see how we can, little by little, leave them alone and see that they have adopted this custom of working every day. If we have enough time, we can play, watch a little television or play on the computer (always controlling the time) and always in that order: first the work and then the distraction.
There are parents who complain because to snack on , the children stand in front of the TV and soon have no way to turn it off so they start to study. In this training, to get into the habit of studying, we must take it seriously from the beginning, and do it well (to eat we do not need the television).
Study techniques for children
Already with 7-8 years we can introduce the concept of study time . To avoid the previous example of spending an entire afternoon without having finished the duties , we have to practice with the clock and the schedules. For example, we start with one crossword per day. We control on the first day how long it takes (put ten minutes) and from that day we propose to the child, try to win from it and surpass their own record (9-8-7 minutes). This is not to bother with time, but to understand that when we put a time, things work in a way, and when it is not, we can spend hours to do the same work. The sooner they finish, the longer they will have to play later.
This will serve as heating , to then move on to another activity . Read every day for at least 15 minutes and also with good pace.
As they grow, the crossword can be replaced by some simple exercise or some easy and quick matter, so that we can move on to matters that cost us or have more work the next day. We can not leave for the weekend, since there will always be some excuse not to do it ( I’m tired, I do not feel like it, better explain to me tomorrow … )
The children have become accustomed to doing the homework (only the exercises they spend in the classroom) every day and with that they have already fulfilled. That’s not fair. First, if you study the question and then you do the exercises.
If a child is attentive in the classroom to the explanation (1st), he studies at home (2nd), learns (3rd), exercises (4th), corrects them in the room (5th), summarizes or script (6th) The questions from time to time (7th) until the day of the evaluation, how will not know the lesson for the day of the examination after having passed on at least 7 times the same question?
Of course if you are not attentive in the classroom, do your homework and study the day before the exam, we already know how it will come out.
When we begin to educate our children , we must be clear that we seek the best for them, and in this life things can be done with effort . With this discipline , we want to teach them for their sake, we will be able to come to the conclusion that we are all tired, but that they have their work in the afternoon, just like us with food, ironing clothes, helping children with tasks … And we do it with gusto. At the end of the day, once we have completed our tasks, we can rest, read, etc. And we will lie down with the satisfaction of the duty fulfilled.
